AGM kicks of exciting year ahead

An excellent turnout of Milton Keynes Softball League members were present at our online AGM as plans were unveiled for 2023.

Last year was a fantastic year for softball in Milton Keynes and our chairperson Leah went through a number of acheivements. Most noticable was our move to Conniburrow Diamond which gives us our own dirt diamond for the first time. This led to record numbers of players and a new team for the outdoor league - the Base Cadets.

Another fantastic acheivement was the debut season of our MK Diamonds NSL3 team, and not only that we got promoted to NSL3! Under the excellent guidance of Hedley Bevan, the Codebreakers Cup was a huge success again with teams joining us from across the country in September. We even have plans for a smaller Spring tournament, the Conniburrow Cup. This will have a local fundraising focus and following a vote, MK Act was selected as this year's charity.

And of course the indoor season is in full swing with plenty of newbies joining some hugely popular training sessions.

The social side of our league has always been hugely important a Kat and Rachel delivered some fantastic events from the End of Season Awards to family days out.

As ever, the AGM covered the financials and the league coordinator reports and we elected a new committee with Debs and James joining the team formally as secretary and treasurer. A huge thank you to Jake and Sam for their contributions in these roles and both will remain involved as part of the committee. The budget for the upcoming year includes plans for projects such as dugout roofs as we further develop our Conniburrow home.

There were also votes conducted on the future of the outdoor league with the exact nature of the second night, Thursday, under discussion. More information will follow. The selection criteria for the NSL squad was also explained in detail with a three-person committee set to make the final squad following training sessions that are already underway.

The meeting closed with some prizes given out to the lucky attendees and we are all looking forward to an exciting 2023 which promises to be the best season yet!
