LAKERS TOP THE TABLE AFTER MK SOFTBALL LEAGUE OPENING GAME

Tuesday the 3rd of May saw the first ever game in the newly formed MK Softball League; after a month of training the excitement was clear from the start of the evening with teams arriving early to warm up, new team kits proudly on display & the sun even made an appearance for the occasion.

The league was officially launched with a ceremonial first pitch from club President Jon Reynolds (with a little help from his son James!) and our teams formed up with home team for the night the Homerun Hornets taking the field first & Willow Lakers at bat.

The first two innings were neck & neck with each team scoring 2 runs per inning, with some solid fielding from both teams stopping any high scoring at bat. By the fourth inning the Lakers has edged ahead by a couple of runs thanks to some great hits including a home run to right field from captain Adam Bee, who becomes the first to make it on to the leagues home run leaderboard. With a gap forming the Lakers then finished strong in the final couple of innings pulling away to an eventual 17-9 win.

It was a fantastic game to kick off the season and ended with a trip to the pub for a well earned dinner! The MVP awards were given to outfielders Trevor Morely & Natalie Davis from the Hornets for their solid performance at bat & in left field. While Paul Severn was awarded Male MVP for the Lakers after some very consistent hitting & outfield throw ins made all the more impressive by the fact that this was his first ever competitive softball game. Female MVP was then awarded to Nikita Shkurko for her solid work on first base & in the batters box.

Next up is the Double Ds who face neighbours the Towcester Tigers on the 17th May so don't miss out!
