Another lockdown, another statement!

Sadly, after just four weeks of indoor softball Covid-19 has once again forced us to pause our sessions. We had a great deal of fun while it lasted; working players hard in their pod groups (has anyone checked if Tilly survived?!) Welcoming back some more faces, and getting to know some newer ones better (under masks of course!) With the current lockdown due to lift on the 2nd of December at the earliest, the committee has taken the decision to end sessions for the year, with a view to getting physical session back up and running as early as possible in the new year.

So, what next?

As sad as we are that indoor has come to an abrupt end for the year, our committee are determined to use the break from sessions as a chance to get the ball well and truly rolling on plans to ensure 2021 more than makes up for this challenging year. We will be taking a look at our current club landscape, consulting our members and setting our vision ahead of a fresh new year. We also have some dates for your diaries…

On Tuesday the 24th November we will be welcoming back Kim Hannessen (GB Women’s Softball Exercise Physiologist) for a Zoom fitness session. Running another 30min class to get everyone off the sofa and moving again from the comfort of our houses! Suitable for all fitness levels & free for all those on our mailing list so keep your eyes peeled for joining instructions in the Softball Weekly.

Next up will be our ‘big club chat’ on Tuesday the 8th December. We want to hear your ideas & views on what we’ve done so far and what we plan to do to assist with our goal setting and planning for next year and beyond. Plus, next year is the club’s 10th birthday, and the league’s 5th so we want to make sure this is marked in style so please do join us for a drink and a softball chit chat!

Finally rounding up the year will be our annual Christmas Curry… With a virtual twist! On Tuesday the 22nd December we would love you all to order yourselves an Indian take away (other cuisines obviously available if that is not your bag), pour yourself a suitable beverage accompaniment and log in to Zoom for quizzing and catch ups.

What’s the one thing we know will go ahead in 2021?

Our Annual General Meeting! It will take more than a Pandemic to prevent something as important as this going ahead, so please get Tuesday the 12th of January in your diaries for our virtual AGM. Full details to follow in due course but with no Awards Night this year we will be making this as fun as possible to make up for it (maybe we’ll make Jake do his finance report through the medium of dance).

We would also love to hear from anyone who might be interested in volunteering to support the club. This can take many shapes from full Committee positions, to joining different subgroups, supporting the coaching team or just doing the odd task here and there to share the load. We know everyone’s time is precious, but many hands make light work and we would love some fresh voices amongst our current gang. I also like to think it can be pretty fun and rewarding, but don’t take my word for it, feel free to chat to any of the current committee Jon, Jod, Jake, Sam, Paul, Rach, Chloe or Chris to find out more about their experiences or ask any questions.

And finally…

We really hope that everyone is doing (relatively) well during this challenging time. We would encourage everyone to check in on their teammates, join us at a virtual event where you can, and keep in touch - particularly if you find yourself struggling. Sending lots of love and strength to all our softball family for the next few months and looking forward to a brighter new year!
